Do you feel your body changes throughout the month?

As I head into my menopause years and my ever-changing body keeps me on my toes, I am exploring and appreciating even more how moving mindfully on a weekly basis, is so beneficial both emotionally and physically.

I have noticed more than ever that at certain times in the month I get a deep ache, the kind that feels its deep inside the tissue of the bones, it nudges me awake at night, whispers to me constantly throughout the day. I feel it more in my wrists and fingers, making me clumsy and awkward with all things small.

Did you know that mindfully moving the joints daily will reduce pain and stiffness?

What I’m really interested in though is if I pay attention and actively exercise, then I really notice a difference.

It’s never too late to start, there’s a starting point for everyone.

No matter how old you are, bone density and joint stiffness can improve, with the correct exercise. I often hear of women wanting to join and start an exercise class, but they feel they are not co-ordinated enough, too overweight, not fit enough, to take the first step. Finding the right setting and support group is all it takes, meeting up with a friend for a weekly walk, doing a little of Pilates in your home each week. Once you make the first step your body naturally feels good, it has a knock-on effect on your mind, nutrition and everything you do in your day.

Pilates exercises that encourage movement in these joints eases the stiffness and reduces inflammation and pain. It helps to build bone density, improve mobility of joints and keep flexibility and balance.
